Taegukki

The circle on the flag, the Yin and Yang, is is divided equally into 2 parts representing balance.
They are opposing yet complimentary forces.

Blue = Yin (negative, dark, cold, passive, moon, female...)
Red = Yang (positive, light, heat, active, sun, male...)

The bars around the corners are called Kwae
The bars also symbolize Yin and Yang.
Broken Bars = Yin
Solid Bars = Yang

The three unbroken bars stand for Heaven.
The opposite three broken bars represent the Earth.
The one with the broken middle bar symbolizes Fire.
The opposite one is the symbol of Water.
